Dear MAST Athletes, Parents, Coaches, Friends:
We had another very productive week of training. We utilized many drills that sought to improve your stance and balance and the use of your lower legs to move your skis deliberately and smoothly on and off the edges. We also introduced drills that strengthen your position over your new outside ski in the transition, create strong edge angles at the top of the turn, and help you then pressure the outside ski as you approach the fall line. And we introduced some drills that helped you discipline your upper body to maintain a strong but quiet position over your outside ski as the turn progressed. This week we will continue to work these skills AND add drills that will teach you proper pole usage: planting and gate clearing. Exciting stuff. Listed at the end of this update are some links to a few excellent instructional videos on pole usage and a few other skills we have been covering in training. Also posted on Sprongo is a new batch of demonstration videos. Please watch these once your homework is done.

We had a terrific night of training at Wild Mt on Saturday. Lots of positive energy, big bright smiles, great effort, no one complaining about ANYTHING! Happiness everywhere. I just love these nights with our coaches and athletes. You must have made an impression on our bus driver Patrick. He would like to drive for MAST whenever we have a need for a bus. We have two more Supplemental Trainings in December: this Saturday (Dec 10) and the following (Dec 17). Registrations for both are open. Be sure to bring a sack supper. This will save you time when you break to eat. No waiting in line to purchase food or wait for it to cook. Eat. Hydrate. And get back on the hill.
