Earning a Varsity Letter
Athletes may earn a Varsity Letter for their respective high school with the Minneapolis Alpine Ski Team. To qualify for a Varsity Letter, athletes must accumulate thirty or more points in a season or be a four year MAST participant who has accumulated thirty or more points over four years. Here is a breakdown on how points will be awarded in 2009-2010:
70 % of the points (21 minimum) come from race results.
In Dual Meets, skiers earn 1 point for varsity selection per race date. They also earn points for finish placement versus each school entered (Example: 1st=10pts; 2nd=9pts, 3rd=8pts, etc.).
In Invitationals/Sections, skiers earn 3 points for varsity selection per race date. They also earn points for finish placement.
30% of the points are Coaches Criteria (9pts maximum).

4 Year Team Member in Good Standing (30 pts minimum)
Coaches will review Lettering Policy with Skiers during the season.

- Points earned for finishing in top half within race seed. (Example: 18 athletes in seed: 18th -10th place = 0 pts earned, 9th place = 1 pt, 8th place =2 pts…1st place = 9pts).
- Points earned for finishing top 30% overall. (Example: 100 athletes entered: 100th-31st place = 0 pts earned, 30th place =1 pt, 29th place = 2 pts…1st place = 30 pts).
