Good Morning:
I may have neglected to tell you that I did request an early release of 2:45pm for the athletes who had stated their intention to race. These lists do not always make their way to the middle schools from the high school athletic directors, so you might want to let your athlete's school know by whatever means they require these days(i.e., a phone call, email, note?). If your athlete is listed on the run order, but not on the list of athletes requesting an early release, it is because they never submitted a race intention for today. I did not request an early release for any athletes who did not state their intention to race, but I did put them on the run order just in cause.... If the temps are below zero at race time, we will likely ask the athletes to race with their jackets on today rather than strip down to their gs suits. They should still wear a gs suit if they have one, but wear their snow pants and jacket and any other warm gear they have. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered. Wow! Mark Much better. Jack, Beckett and Elise are now on the results page with accurate times. Still not quite enough points to overcome Hastings or Hill Murray in team scoring, but it can be done. Just keep working hard and continue wrapping myelin.
See you tonight. Mark Good Morning:
1. Practice IS STILL ON. I understand that MPS sent out a confusing message last night regarding after school programming. I do not receive these messages, but one of the captain's forwarded it to me. I have not heard that practices are canceled from any of our athletic directors. Dave Wicker always emails me directly when we are shut down. He has NOT done so as of 11.36am. Unless I hear otherwise, we are practicing tonight. We have lanes 1 and 2. 2. Better Link For Supplemental Training Sign Up I understand that the link I sent out in a recent email is not working properly. So, if you are trying to sign up for Supplemental Training on Saturday, here is one that should work better. https://minneapolisalpineskiteam.sportssignup.com/site/ 3. Friday's JV Race Thank you to the parents who have signed up to work Friday's race. We still need: 2 gate judges 2-4 scoreboard recorders 1 or 2 course workers 1 race day concierge Sign up to help here: https://signup.com/go/zTkmkix Attached is a race plan and a list of athletes who are racing. If you don't see your name listed, but stated that you wanted to race, that means that I want you to train instead. If you didn't state your intention to race, but your name is on the run order, that means you can race if you want to do so. And that I would encourage you to race. See you soon. Mark Good Evening:
Just as the timing was malfunctioning tonight, the race results are malfunctioning. Jack Bajek finished 7th, but his time was given to a JV skier in the JV results. Consequently, the Washburn score is not accurate. However, we do not have the 2nd page of the team results for either boys or girls. I've asked for the results to be recalculated. Congrats to Gabby for finishing 4th. Congrats to Erik (4th), Andreas (5th), Charlie (6th), Levi (8th) and Parker (9th) for their top ten results. And Congrats to the SW boys for your first place result. Very consistent skiing boys. It was a steeper pitch tonight and very straight course sets with a lot of room between turning poles. You adjusted well on the second run. Thanks everyone for a great night. See you tomorrow. Sign up for Supplemental Training: https://minneapolisalpineskiteam.sportssignup.com/site/ When I get updated results, I will send them your way. Mark Hello:
Just a friendly reminder that we have only one training session today. 5-7:15PM on lanes 4 and 5. Bring rope tow gloves if you want to get in more runs. Go directly to lanes when you get to Hyland. Have fun. Get good. I want to be impressed tomorrow by your improvement. Everyone should be trying to get their torso inside the corridor. If you don't know what that means, ask the coaches tonight. Mark Tuesday, January 4, 2022
Good Afternoon MAST Athletes, Coaches and Parents: Big race tomorrow at Afton AND training at Hyland. I. We will only hold one practice session tomorrow (Wednesday). 5:00-7:15PM Please train at 5PM if you are not racing at Afton. II. A few more details and reminders regarding the Afton race. A. There are several changes to the run orders for Wednesday. Attached is an updated list of the athletes/teams. Please let me know if I have errored in any way. We have a few skiers out sick, so I moved a few people around and added others. It is entirely possible (but highly unlikely?) that I made a mistake and left someone off the list who had previously been on it. B. I do not have a way of tracking who has completed the Afton/Vail Waiver, so please be sure you do this. Here is a link if you still need to complete the waiver:Afton/Vail Waiver Link C. Most of you have paid for your Afton lift ticket. Thank you. If you still need to pay, here is a link: Afton Metro East Race Lift Ticket D. I need to know if you are not riding the bus tomorrow. Here who I know is riding with a parent so far: Erik Arnold Eva and Mila Voyakin E. I am guessing there are other athletes riding with parents as well. PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL IF YOU ARE RIDING TO AFTON WITH A PARENT. Reminder, no athletes should be driving solo to Afton. markrobertconway58@gmail.com F. f you are riding the bus, you can drop off your skis and boots before school tomorrow. The buses do not have trailers and skis are not allowed on the bus. Joel and I will carry skis and poles. Joel: will be at Pershing Park from 7:30am-8:15am. Mark: will have the trailer at 4800 Harriet (across from Fuller Park) from 7:30am-8:30am. G. Storing your boots and race clothing/gear at Washburn and Southwest. Washburn: Bring you gear to the storage room by the main gym (012) by water fountain. Go to the Athletic Office and Mr. Giovan Jenkins will open and close the door for you. Ms. Lilly and Mr. Jenkins will be there when you need to retrieve your gear before heading out to the bus. Southwest: meet Mr. Mark Robinson at the equipment room outside of the west gym between 7:45am and 8:15am. Meet him there again at 2PM to pick up your equipment. H. Other Instructions.

Looking forward to today's race. The captains' named our Hyland races this year and our first race honors Gary Griffin and the other parents who founded MAST back in 2000-2001. Gary was one of those determined parents. Best of all, he stayed on as a volunteer coach through the 2019-20 season. Without Gary, Minneapolis students would not have the opportunity to represent their high schools in ski racing. We have most of the race volunteer positions covered. Please look over the attached run orders and race plan for details. We will hold a gate judge meeting in the finish arena at 4PM. Please dress for warmth. Mark 612-275-8392 Good Evening Race Fans.
Results are attached. How fun to see how much the team has improved over the last four weeks. Congratulations to Gabby Harritt and Kate Moore who finished first and second tonight. Very close race. Gabby whipped Kate by a whopping eight one hundredths of a second. Nahlah Mkaouri and Reese Kuehn skied extremely well to finish in fourth and fifth respectively. The Washburn girls went undefeated tonight. Great work girls. Andreas was our top finisher on the boys' side. He finished second with Charlie Smith only .01 seconds behind, even closer than Kate was to Gabby. Impressive. Erik Arnold finished fourth and Finn Cherveny skied his best race ever, finishing in fifth. Southwest bested Washburn in the team competition, avenging their pounding at the Wild Invite by their brothers on skis. Thank you to all the coaches and parents who worked today's race and to all the parents who came out and cheered. Congratulations to all of our athletes. You have worked very hard in a short amount of time and it was a pleasure to watch you ski tonight. I appreciate your effort. We have just over seven weeks remaining in the season. You can accomplish so much more. Maintain your focus and discipline. See you on the hill tomorrow. Mark MAST Update Week Eight
Sunday, January 2, 2021 Dear MAST Athletes, Parents and Coaches: Big week ahead. I need everyone to read this update very carefully and complete the action steps. Details regarding the Afton race this week just came out today, which is why I am late getting this information out to you. Please act tonight if at all possible or first thing tomorrow. I. Athlete Race Entries Attached is a list of athletes who have stated their intentions to race this week. Please note that the entries for each race appear in separate tabs.
II. WAIVERS. Unfortunately we all need to complete two waivers in order to ski race at Afton and Welch. This is an administrative headache, so please help me out and get this done so we don’t have any issues the day of the race. Welch has made it clear that its waiver needs to be completed well in advance of our first race there on Jan. 11. Waiver #1: Afton/Vail Athlete Waiver Parents, please follow the link to the Afton/Vail Waiver to complete the required liability release waiver. It looks like all parents need to sign this waiver, even for athletes who have already turned 18. Afton/Vail Waiver Link Waiver #2: Welch/MN Ski Areas Assn Waiver Most of our families have already completed the liability release waiver required to compete at Welch. Please look over the attached roster to see if you have already completed the Welch Waiver for your athlete. If your name is highlighted in yellow, you still need to complete the waiver if you have any intention of racing at Welch on Jan. 11 or Feb 3. Unfortunately, the Welch waiver does not cover racing at Afton. Because Afton is owned by Vail, Afton requires everyone to sign its own waiver. Welch/MN Ski Area Assn Waiver III. Hyland Race Details (Monday, Jan 3) I will send an email to the high school athletic directors requesting a 2:45pm early release. Parents, I suggest that you send a note to school with your athlete in the morning indicating your plans for early release. The first run will begin at 4:30 is all goes well. Inspection will open at 3:45pm. Please plan to stay around after the race to help with hill clean up. We do need race workers. Please follow this link to sign up to help.January 3 RaceVolunteer Sign Up IV. Afton/Metro East Conference Race: Wednesday, January 5. A. Lift Tickets to Afton We are asking families to cover the cost of lift tickets for our Metro East races this year. The price of a lift ticket is $33. If you own an Epic Pass that is valid at Afton, please send me an email indicating that you have an Epic Pass and will be securing your own lift ticket on January 5th. If you cannot afford to purchase a lift ticket, please send me an email as well and the team will purchase your ticket for you. If you can afford to cover the cost of your lift ticket, please pay HERE: Afton Metro East Race Lift Ticket B. Afton COVID Protocols and Implications Afton has very strict rules that we need to follow: “Athletes will need to boot up in vehicles or busses, they will not be able to get ready in the chalet. Proof of vaccination for ages 12+ is required for indoor dining. Vaccinations are not required to use the restrooms. “ I am told that you can warm up on the first floor and use the rest rooms there. You will need to wear a mask indoors, so be sure to have a mask in your jacket pocket. C. Race Day Equipment Logistics This gets really complicated and there are some additional details to work out. We are still working out the race day logistics, but here is the plan so far. We have two buses reserved for a 2:15PM pick up—one from Washburn and one from Southwest. The buses do not have trailers. Skis are not allowed on the bus, so we need to use the MAST trailer and our pick-up trucks to transport skis. Southwest skiers should meet Coach Joel at Pershing Park between 8 and 8:25AM with your skis and poles. I will collect and store skis and poles for the Washburn/South/Roosevelt students. Meet me at my house across from Fuller Park between 7:30 and 8:30AM. You will need to bring your boots to school along with all of your ski gear. I will ask the high school athletic directors to find a secure room for you to store your gear during the day. Middle school students will need to get a ride to meet the bus at 2:15, so your parents can bring your boots and ski clothing when they pick you up and you can change in your car on the way to SW or Washburn. Same for the South/Roosevelt skiers. I suggest wearing your long underwear under your clothes for the day. If anyone has a better plan, please let me know. D. January 5 Afton Race Schedule 8-8:25AM Drop off skis and poles with Joel at Pershing Park or Mark at 4800 Harriet Ave (across from Fuller Park). 2PM Early dismissal. Change into ski clothing at school. 2:15PM Load the bus. Put on boots upon arrival at Afton. 3:15PM Unload bus. Pick up lift ticket and skis from Mark and Joel. 4:00PM Inspection Opens 4:30PM First Run Starts E. Afton Race Workers We do need two or three gate judges and one or two course workers. If any parents are willing to gate judge or do course work, please send me an email: markrobertconway58@gmail.com. F. Supper I suggest packing a couple of sandwiches to eat on the hill during the race. Be sure to bring a water bottle. Note that you must show your vaccination card to eat in the chalet. Plus, there will likely not be time to order food and eat in the chalet between race runs, so bring something that you can munch on out on the hill and riding the chair. V. Hyland JV Race: Friday, January 7. The Jefferson JV will be joining us on Friday, January 7. I will be requesting an early release of 2:45pm. Inspection will open at 3:45pm and the race will start at 4:30PM. We still need volunteers to fill many positions for our race on Friday. January 7 JV Race Volunteer Sign Up VI. Supplemental Training: Saturday, January 8, 2022 Our third supplemental training session is scheduled for Saturday, January 8. We should have fantastic training. Meet the bus at 2:30PM at Washburn and we will return at 10:30PM. Cost is $60. Sign up here: https://minneapolisalpineskiteam.sportssignup.com/site/ VII. Week Eight Training I will update the website later tonight with the Week 8 Training Schedule. Please consult the website tomorrow for the updated training schedule. More to come.
