Volunteer at a race
Race Volunteer Sign Up
Ski races do not and cannot happen without the commitment and involvement of MANY coaches and parents on race day. Races are complicated to organize and run. To give our athletes the best race experience possible, we ask parents to get involved on race day as gate judges, course workers, scoreboard recorders, announcers, bib collectors, etc. For some roles, training is required (gate judging) but easily learned. You can sign up to volunteer for upcoming races by CLICKING HERE.
Race Day Volunteering
Announcer
This very important job keeps spectators informed about who is racing on which course, what times they score, and who to look for next. Offering additional race commentary is optional.
Bibs: Organizing and Distributing
One hour before the race, sort and organize the race bibs for each team. Help distribute bibs to MAST athletes.
Bibs: Collecting and Re-Organizing
During the second run of the race, collect bibs from each athlete as he or she exits the finish arena. After the race, sort and re-hang the bibs in the storage area.
Chief of Course
Oversees the maintenance of the race course during the race: sets up stations of replacement gates on the hill, organizes course slippers to maintain the race track, directs course workers to replace broken gates. Sets up safety netting if needed.
Course Worker
Course Workers need to be able to side-slip the race track with ease and start and stop quickly. Course Workers side slip the course to smooth out the ruts and keep the track safe and clean for all competitors.
Gate Judge
Certain races require participating teams to furnish a minimum number of gate judges. Gate judges stand on the hill next to the race course and judge whether the racer properly passes through the gates. No experience is necessary; warm clothing is. Non-skiers welcome.
