Update 5.1: Monday, Sept 16

Dear MAST Families:
 
A couple of quick follow up notes to Update #5.

1. Attached is a roster of athletes who purchased a 2019-2020 Hyland Hills season pass in March 2019.  
2. If you ordered a 2018-19 MAST Photo Book, it will be available for pick up at the Ice Cream Social on Sunday.
3. Pierce Skate and Ski is offering a package price on new 2018-19 Fischer FIS SL skis with Z13 bindings (DIN 4-13) for $999.95.  This includes binding installation and race prep (meaning that Pierce will put an initial race tune on the skis).  This is still a lot of money.  However, it is less expensive than buying the 2019-20 Fischer FIS SL race ski, which other than a small change in the top sheet graphics, is exactly the same ski as the 2018-19 model.    These sizes are adult ski sizes, meaning that you need to be a strong skier weighing roughly 130 pounds or more.  A few folks weighing less than 130 pounds might be able to handle a 155cm ski.... some of our top girls and boys.  Skis that are 150cm in length are usually constructed a bit more sturdily than the junior race skis which are found in lengths under 150cm.  Race skis in a 150cm length are sometimes referred to as Tweener Skis, as in “in-between” a junior and an adult ski.  Depending on the level of experience, racers who weigh between 105 and 130 pounds would generally ski on 150cm ski.    Junior race skis are under 150cm in length and are the ski that most racers who are under 105-110 pounds should be using.   When picking the proper ski length, there are many variables at play: skiing experience, aggressiveness, weight, and height.  Tweener skis and junior race skis are less expensive than adult race skis.  One word of caution: most of the manufacturers play a dirty little trick on the unsuspecting public.  They build a ski with graphics very similar to the top of the line race skis, call it a race ski for high school or development team racers, and sell it at a price point significantly below their high-end race ski. These often appear at ski swaps as new race skis.  The price seems great.  The problem is that these skis break easily.  There will be no warranty in effect to replace them when this happens.  I advise against buying these skis if you are able to determine that they are not the manufacturers top of the line race ski.    More on buying at a swap as we get closer to the Buck Hill Swap at the end of September.
