We are very busy.... so busy in fact that I forgot to ask PARENTS to sign up to work our upcoming races. So.... I need to ask parents to sign up to work the upcoming races, including the one this Friday at Wild Mt. Hopefully some of you were planning on joining us anyway. The race at Wild Mt will be a wonderful opportunity to race against several strong teams who are in our Section. Pressure is on. However, we need race workers. I know. It’s a big ask to ask you to drive to Wild on a workday. But, if you can make it work, we really need the help. Gate judges, course workers, assistant starters, etc.
Some Information on the Upcoming Races Friday, Jan 17 at Wild Mt Meet the bus at 12:45pm at Washburn. We will depart at 1pm. Bring money for a QUICK supper. There is good soup and chili in the bar area. Better yet, bring a sack supper so you can eat throughout the afternoon. Be sure to eat lunch before you come to the bus. We hope to be back to Washburn around 9:30pm. Attached is a list of Mpls Athletes entered in the race. If your plans have changed, please send me an email at [email protected]. Tuesday, Jan 21 at Hyland This is a dual meet against Wayzata, MoundWestTonka, Holy Angels, and Lake Crystal. 4:30 start. Given that it is the first day of the new quarter, I would like the high school students to stay in school for the full day. The middle school students will need an early release. Friday, Jan 24 at Afton for the Afton Invite You will miss school for this race. Load the bus at Washburn at 9am. We will be selecting the squads to race in the Afton Invite on Saturday. We are bringing an 8 person varsity squad of boys and girls from Washburn and SW and a 6 person JV squad of boys and girls from Washburn and SW. We are also bringing all the South/Roosevelt athletes who want to race in this race. Be sure you have stated your intentions by Friday evening (Jan 17). Thursday, Jan 30 at Mt Du Lac (Gitchi Gummi Invite). Again, racers will miss a day of school to participate in this race. We haven’t received the schedule for the day but it is a long drive so we know we need to leave early. We will load the bus at Washburn at 6am. We will return around 8pm. Bring money for lunch and dinner. We will stop on the trip home to grab a quick supper, most likely in Hinkley. Eat breakfast before you load the bus. Friday, Jan 24 and Friday, Jan 31 at Hyland JV Both JV races will start at 4:15. I will ask for an early release of 2:30 or 2:45 for those participating. If you are racing in the Afton Invite or the Gitchi Gummi Invite, I will NOT enter you in the Hyland JV race unless there is ample room in the race for all of our racers. Athlete Race Intentions It is very important that ALL athletes state your race intentions for all races. Attached is a spreadsheet of the athletes who have stated their intentions for the races on Jan 21, Jan 25, Jan 30 and Jan 31. Please review these lists and if your name is NOT on every list, click on the link below and state your intentions to race or not race for the missing dates. ATHLETES: STATE YOUR RACE INTENTIONS The coaches are seeing wonderful improvement in training. I want to commend all of you who have been coming to practice on your strong work ethic and your eagerness to absorb the advice from your coaches. It is a blast to watch you ski and get better both technically and tactically. Keep up the hard work and thanks for making it so fun to be on the hill with you. We have lots of video on Sprongo. I hope you are utilizing this great tool. Watch yourself. Watch your teammates. Analyze your skiing. Become a student of the sport and coach yourself. See you at practice.
