The best gift of all…a message from Coach Mark Greetings Athletes. We have experienced some soggy weather conditions lately. That did not prevent you from coming to the hill and putting in the work necessary to becoming outstanding ski racers. Other teams cancelled practice. Not MAST. When we announced that we would be free skiing instead of running gates on Friday, you embraced the opportunity to build your skills. I want to congratulate you for your attitude and work ethic. As you rehearsed each drill over and over and received continuous feedback from the coaches, we could see significant improvement in your execution of the drills. And when you finally got to make linked turns with pole plants on your final run of the day, your technique was noticeably stronger. The coaches will continue to teach you drills over the next two weeks (and through the end of the season) that will help you build all six fundamental skills that ski racers need to achieve ski racing nirvana (remember the Skills Pyramid?). I want to encourage you to take these drills seriously. Ask coaches for feedback on how well you are performing each drill. Seek to understand what skills each drill is trying to develop. Deliberately practice these drills. By “deliberately” I mean this: take a moment to watch the video instruction of the drill on your phone before your run. Then visualize yourself performing the drill. Consider any coaching feedback you have received. The goal is to perform the drill perfectly. As you master each drill, your technique will improve. And as your technique improves, so will your speed and consistency in a racecourse. Listed below are the six fundamental skills of the Skills Pyramid and the drills that we will be working to perfect over the next two weeks. As you can see, we will be focusing in on the skill of Pole Usage but will continue our efforts to develop the other five skills. Keep working hard. Keep supporting each other. It is a joy to be with you on the hill no matter how soggy the conditions. -Coach Mark Conway Drills For Skills - the Six Fundamentals Pole Usage

Please DO NOT bring any food products with nuts or peanut oils. Meals: Breakfast and dinner will be provided at Camp. Lunch is provided by Giant’s catering. If you stated food allergies or dietary restrictions when you registered, those have been communicated to both Camp and Giant’s Ridge. Snacks/ Treats/ Fruit: The Packing List suggests that people bring a healthy snack or fruit to share. Any food you bring up needs to be stored in the lodge. No food is allowed in the cabins. Food attracts mice and ants so please don’t even think about bringing any food into the cabins. Team snacks can be packed in a separate grocery bag and handed to coaches at bus loading. Talent Show: We will be upholding our tradition and having the MAST Talent Show at camp. Bring your talent or lack thereof and be ready to share. Past talents on display: piano, singing, dancing, poetry, storytelling, jokes, magic, guitar, fiddling, and skits. Don’t be shy. Start talking to buddies about what you can do together. Beckett Peterson is bringing his electric keyboard and will make it available to anyone else who would like to share some piano prowess. Thanks, Beckett! Option to watch video with a coach on the bus ride: We will have coaches on the bus, and if you ask them nicely, they might just be willing to watch a video of your skiing with you. Download the run you would like to analyze to your phone and ask a coach to analyze your skiing with you. Packing List: Attached is a packing list. Please pack the clothing you will need for skiing on Tuesday morning either on top of your bag or in a separate bag. We will be stopping very briefly at camp to drop off our bags, change into our ski clothes, and then head to the Ridge. *Also, don’t forget a sleeping bag, pillow, and toothbrush. Bring a water bottle. Showers are available in the cabins. Electronics: You have four days to focus on your skiing and to interact with your teammates. Keep your phone and other electronics hidden away please. If you want to use them for a period of time on the bus, that is fine. In camp, use your time to engage with other human beings instead of your electronics. Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, Vaping are strictly forbidden. If you feel a need to indulge in any such activity, stay home. If you are caught engaging in any such activity, you will be sent home. Remember, this is a training camp.
