Happy Holidays, MAST Athletes, Parents, and Caregivers! ‘Tis the season for last-minute errands, too many cookies, and holiday movies that are so bad they’re good. But most of all this is a time of togetherness and joy, looking back on the wonderful moments from this past year and setting goals for the new one. We’re thankful for our MAST Family and all the memories we’re creating. In addition to the upcoming holidays, we have Giant’s Ridge to look forward to and some excellent opportunities for training. Please see below for important info. Holiday Week TRAINING SCHEDULE We have great lanes for training this week and will use both timing and film. Check TeamSnap for practice times and lanes (for Monday, and for the rest of the holiday week leading up to the Giant’s Ridge ski team extravaganza). Monday, Dec 23 12/11/10 @ 3:45 - 6pm 9/8/7 @ 5 - 7:15pm Thursday, Dec 26 All pods: 7:45 - 10:30am Friday, Dec 27 All pods: 7:45 - 10:30am December 20th Wild Invitation Athlete Payments Once again congrats to all the amazing athletes, coaches and parents who were at Wild Mountain on Friday, Dec 20th! This season, MAST will be invoicing participants for lift tickets and transportation costs after the race is completed to simplify transactions. We expect participation costs for races to be slightly above last season ($3-4), which averaged $34.75. Those who were at Wild Mountain on Friday will receive a separate email from TeamSnap with instructions on how to pay for the race. Appreciate prompt response in advance! A NOTE ABOUT SATURDAY PRACTICES Please note there is NO freeskiing anywhere at Hyland before they open to the public at 9am. They open the NORTH CHAIR ONLY at 8am to allow us to train, and we are to go from the chalet to the bottom of North and from the bottom of North to the chalet. We are not allowed to cut through the terrain park to go back to the chalet. Please respect these guidelines so we can continue to get great training done on Saturdays before the masses arrive. Saturday practice times are listed in TeamSnap as 7:45am - 10:30am. We want you to arrive at 7:45 so we can make the most of 8am-10am on-snow time. We are expected to clean the hill at 10, which is why we’ve listed 10:30 as the end of practice. If we’re efficient as a team you are likely off the hill or outside getting into cars by 10:15/10:20. GIANTS RIDGE TRAINING CAMP INFO - Tuesday, Dec 31 - Friday, Jan 3 Below are some requests and reminders for those athletes and coaches attending the Giants Ridge Camp. Please read carefully. Meet The Bus: Please meet the bus Tuesday morning at 6AM at Washburn in our usual spot on 49th street. Skis will go in the trailers that Joel and Mark are pulling. Girl’s skis go in Mark’s trailer (U Haul Rental) and Boys’ skis go in Joel’s trailer (MAST Trailer). Peanut Free Camp: Please remember that we have several athletes who have severe peanut allergies. Please DO NOT bring any food products with nuts or peanut oils. Meals: Breakfast and dinner will be provided at Camp. Lunch is provided by Giant’s catering. If you stated food allergies or dietary restrictions when you registered, those have been communicated to both Camp and Giant’s Ridge. Snacks/ Treats/ Fruit: The Packing List suggests that people bring a healthy snack or fruit to share. Any food you bring up needs to be stored in the lodge. No food is allowed in the cabins. Food attracts mice and ants so please don’t even think about bringing any food into the cabins. Team snacks can be packed in a separate grocery bag and handed to coaches at bus loading. Talent Show: We will be upholding our tradition and having the MAST Talent Show at camp. Bring your talent or lack thereof and be ready to share. Past talents on display: piano, singing, dancing, poetry, storytelling, jokes, magic, guitar, fiddling, and skits. Don’t be shy. Start talking to buddies about what you can do together. Beckett Peterson is bringing his electric keyboard and will make it available to anyone who would like to share some piano prowess. Thanks, Beckett! Option to watch video with a coach on the bus ride: We will have coaches on the bus, and if you ask them nicely, they might just be willing to watch a video of your skiing with you. Download the run you would like to analyze to your phone and ask a coach to analyze your skiing with you. Packing List: Attached is a packing list. Please pack the clothing you will need for skiing on Tuesday morning either on top of your bag or in a separate bag. We will be stopping very briefly at camp to drop off our bags, change into our ski clothes, and then head to the Ridge. *Also, don’t forget a sleeping bag, pillow, and toothbrush. Bring a water bottle. Showers are available in the cabins. Electronics: You have four days to focus on your skiing and to interact with your teammates. Keep your phone and other electronics hidden away please. If you want to use them for a period of time on the bus, that is fine. In camp, use your time to engage with other human beings instead of your electronics. Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, Vaping are strictly forbidden. If you feel a need to indulge in any such activity, stay home. If you are caught engaging in any such activity, you will be sent home. Remember, this is a training camp. We will work hard, but have fun doing so.
