MAST UPDATE #6 MONDAY, October 25, 2021 Dear MAST Athletes, Parents, and Coaches: We kicked off the MAST Athlete Fundraiser last night with our virtual Fundraiser Kick-Off Webinar. Thank you to Hope White, Mike Isensee and Kirsten Arbeiter for your great work setting up this important opportunity for our athletes and families. If you missed our kick-off, you still may participate. Attached are the forms and flyers you need to get started. This year, you can sell both MinneSalsa salsa and Urban Ventures coffee in an effort to raise funds to cover some of the expenses that are not covered by our team fee and activity fee: supplemental training, camp, team apparel, the banquet. As we shared in the MAST Fact Sheet, we may also have to ask you to help cover the cost of a lift ticket this year at our AWAY races. Also attached is an edited version of the slide show we used last night. The slides should explain the fundraiser process fairly well. If you have questions, you can contact me, Mike or Hope. I encourage all MAST athletes to participate. All order forms with payment need to be submitted before or on Monday, November 15th—we will be collecting orders at the Season Pass Pick Up Event. Registration With MAST and Hyland Season Pass Orders As of this morning, we have 117 athletes registered with MAST, 33 of you are new to the team. Welcome All! Attached is a roster of registered athletes AND a roster of athletes who have purchased a season pass through MAST. If you have not registered for MAST, do so this week please. I will be closing registration on or before Saturday morning or when we hit 125 athletes, whichever comes first. We are quite full. And the deadline for purchasing a season pass through MAST is Wednesday, October 27. If you still need to purchase a pass, put a check in an envelope and drop it in my mailbox: 4800 Harriet Ave. Make checks payable to Mpls Alpine. Registration With MPS Online registration for Winter Sports is ready to go. Remember, most of you have paid the MPS Activity Fee. Don't pay a second time when you register with MPS. You should be able to submit your MPS registration without paying the activity fee, so if you run into any trouble, please call me. REGISTER WITH MPS HERE. Equipment and the Team Gilboa Ski Swap If you still need equipment, the last ski swap of the season will be held this Friday, Oct 29 through Sunday, Oct 31. I recommend arriving shopping on Friday if you have critical equipment needs. Here’s a link to the Swap: https://www.teamgilboa.com/swap TG Equipment Swap Hours Friday, 10/29: 4pm-8pm Saturday, 10/30: 10am-5pm Sunday, 10/31: 10am-12pm World Cup Results at Soelden and Some Minnesota Connections The USA had a great start on the World Cup circuit this weekend in Soelden. The season commenced with giant slalom races. Mikaela Shiffren finished first. She makes it look so easy because she has perfect fundamental technical skills developed by focusing on perfecting the drills that her coaches taught her to perform in her youth. Also impressive were the results of three other US women who finished in the top 30, one of whom—Paula Moltzen (placing 23rd)-- hails from Lakeville, MN. Paula won the MN State High School Alpine Championship back in 2009—as a ninth grader. In the men’s race, River Radamus had the best finish of his young career, sixth overall. River’s father, Aldo Radumus, is a Hall of Fame coach in Colorado who grew up in Robbinsdale and learned to ski at Theodore Wirth Park when he was a kid—back when Theodore Wirth operated a ski area complete with ski instruction. He started his USSA racing career as a senior in high school on the Equinox Ski Team that trained at Hyland. Equinox was a ski shop back in the 70’s located on 50th and France that sponsored the first USSA team at Hyland. I got my start on Equinox as well. As you can see, Minnesota is well connected to the international ski racing stage. As Paul Harvey use to say, “And now you know the rest of the story.” Scroll down to the bottom of our homepage to watch Mikaela’s winning runs. Exciting stuff. More to come....
