Hello Again:
As I wrote yesterday, I was working on a way for you or someone else to change your settings in your mpsedu email account so that you can receive MAST Updates from our google groups account. I have what might be the answer. Login to your MPS Google accounts and change the Global Settings and check the boxes to allow managers to add you to groups. We don't have our google groups account set up to have conversations, so I don't think you need to check the conversations settings under Notifications. If you are not receiving MAST Updates to your MPSEDU email inbox and you would like to do so, please change your settings. I will give you a week to get this done and then I will try adding or inviting everyone to join using your MPS email addresses. It would be very troubling to me if you couldn't access our riveting MAST literature for an entire season. Once you start receiving our emails, you can probably go back into Global Settings and uncheck the boxes so you don't get added to other groups that you don't want to hear from. See below for a screen shot of this solution. See you soon. Mark MAST UPDATE #5.1
Tuesday, October 3, 2023 Hello MAST Athletes, Parents, Friends, and Coaches: It will not be a pattern to send a MAST Update two days in a row. Nonetheless, a couple of quick announcements, encouragements and requests...because it is important, urgent, and you love it when you hear from me. First, would you please help us sell out the Mr. Paul’s Pasta Dinner Fundraiser. We have a lot of seating available at the 6PM time-slot. The 7:30 time-slot is filling up more quickly, but tables remain open at this time as well. Please forward an invitation with the flyer to anyone you know who...1) might enjoy a pasta dinner at a very reasonable price (you don’t even leave a tip), 2) would like to support life-changing opportunities for our young people so they can grow up to be outstanding citizens, 3) would appreciate a night out with someone they love, and/or 4) need a break from cooking or doing dishes. And if you are free on Monday evening, October 9, please treat yourself and your family to a festive night of food and conversation at Mr. Paul’s Supper Club. Click Here For More Information: Mr Paul's MAST Fundraiser Click Here For Reservations: Mr. Paul’s Supper Club MAST Dinner. Second, we are close to filling the golf carts for our MASTers Golf Tournament on Thursday at Hiawatha golf course. Please arrive to check in between 3PM and 3:45PM. We would like to be ready to race off to our assigned first tees promptly at 4PM. I THINK we can still accept more participants, so if you are willing to give it a go, please follow the links below to sign up. Find For More Information Here Sign Up To Play Here. Sign Up To Donate To The Raffle Here. Third, I was informed by Hyland/Three Rivers Park District today that they would like all season pass holders to complete and sign an online Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability Waiver this year. In the past, we have sign and submitted paper waivers. So this is your task: please follow the link below to complete the waiver for your athlete if your athlete is under age 18. I believe that any athletes who have already reached the age of 18 should sign the waiver himself/herself. Hyland will not release the season pass to folks until the waiver is signed. Our season pass pick up date is Monday, November 13th so we do have some time. But if you can get it done sooner than later, I don’t need to keep repeating this message over the next six weeks. Even if you haven’t purchased your pass yet, you can sign the waiver. Hyland will be sending me a link to track the names of those who have signed the waiver. Here is the link to complete the waiver. https://threeriversparks.link/HHTeamWaiver Fourth, I did enter the email addresses of everyone who attended the “Orientation” presentation last night. However, some of the email addresses I entered would not allow you to be added to our google groups address book. I would ask EVERYONE who is reading this to check with ALL family members who should be receiving our updates to see if they received THIS one. If someone didn’t, the problem might be that your email is set to not allow me to directly add or even invite you to join our google group account. Consequently, you will need to change your settings to so I can add or invite you to our google group. Once you make that change, please notify me and I will add/invite you to our account. Also, MAST updates are currently being blocked by the MPS firewall from reaching your MPSEDU inbox. I’m trying to work with the district to allow our emails to come to your MPSEDU inbox. Until this effort is successful, make sure you are receiving these updates in a personal email account or through your parents. I would hate to have you miss one word of these treasured, memorable, and timeless “letters” of common sense and virtue. Finally, for those who could not attend our “Orientation to HS Racing and MAST” presentation in person, I will post a narrated slideshow of the presentation over the weekend to the homepage of our website. I may get it posted sooner, but I don’t want to make a promise I can’t keep. Thanks everyone. Mark Conway 612-275-8392 MAST UPDATE #5 Monday, October 2, 2023 Hello MAST Athletes, Parents, Friends, and Coaches: Just want to send out some reminders on this warm Monday morning. Before I remind you of everything coming up and coming due, I have this one announcement that I keep forgetting to make. If you have a MAST Lawn Sign, please place it in your yard if you are willing and able. I. Registration Is Open As you know, registration opened yesterday. Thank you to everyone who has registered so far. If you have not yet registered, I encourage you to do so sooner than later. It isn’t that I anticipate the roster filling quickly, it is just helpful to the coaches to know how many veteran athletes are returning and how many new athletes are joining. We have a lot of logistical planning to accomplish in October. If you have any questions about the registration process, please be sure to read the attached Registration Instructions or check them out on our website. If you run into any issues, call me at 612-275-8392. Remember, you will need to also register for alpine skiing as a winter sport through MPS Athletics. The online portal for winter sports registration opens on October 26. Here is a link to register: ’23-’24 MAST Registration II. Orientation to High School Ski Racing and MAST! Tonight! This includes skis, boots, shin guards, poles, gs suits, bibs, etc. Here is what to do. Step One: Take one or more pictures of each item you would like to sell. Be sure to get as much detail in as possible, i.e., condition of the boot soles, model information, flex number, sizing, etc. Step Two: Fill out the Equipment Sales Form on our website. Step Three: Send the photos to Cyrus Vahhaji (cyguy@mac.com) and Mark Conway ([email protected]), along with a short message that you would like these photos on the website and that you have filled out the sales form for each item. If the item does not sell before the swap on Oct 14, then bring it to the swap to sell. More Information about our ski swap (how to sell, how to purchase, how to select good used equipment) can be found on our website at https://www.mplsalpineski.org/mast-equipment-swap.html. B. MAST Tuning Clinic: Saturday, October 14 at 10AM (During the MAST Ski Swap) All MAST athletes should be able to tune your skis (sharpen your edges and wax your bases). Parents are encouraged to also learn how to tune the skis so you can help your athlete do this properly without damaging the skis. Two brains are better than one. Our tuning clinic will teach you the basics of tuning and will help you get started. Join us at 10AM on Oct 14th. You might want to download and print two pdfs: MAST Tuning Guide and MAST Tuning Supplies. A copy of each is attached and can also be found on our website. This will help you better absorb all the steps and subtleties of the tuning process. C. MAST Individual Fundraiser Kick-Off MinneSalsa and Urban Ventures Coffee Sales. 10AM-Noon on October 14th at the MAST Equipment Swap. Receive instruction on how to sell salsa from MinneSalsa and coffee from Urban Ventures, pick up order forms, and get fired up to earn money to cover some of your expenses for the season. Use the money to pay for Saturday Supplemental Training Sessions, purchase Away Race Lift Tickets, help cover the Winter Break Training Camp Fee, purchase tickets for the MAST Banquet, or buy MAST apparel. As I said, October is a busy month. We are like the squirrels who are hustling to collect their black walnuts and acorns for the Winter... Sort of like them... Not really at all. They don't ski. I don't eat acorns. See you soon. Mark Conway 612-275-8392
