Your team fees and team fundraising efforts cover the costs of coaching, training equipment, and administrative costs. Unfortunately, there are other programming expenses that are not covered by MAST and are funded by the athlete directly. To help you cover these extra programming expenses, we offer the MAST Athlete Individual Fundraiser. This fundraiser kicks off tonight at 6pm with a virtual meeting. Sign in using your MPS email address. Look for the invitation in your MPS google groups calendar. You will learn how you can raise money to use to pay for supplemental training, lift tickets to away races, giants ridge camp and more.... Here is a link to join the meeting. Again, use your MPS email address to log in. meet.google.com/tcq-ccdq-twg If you can't make the meeting, check out the homepage of our website tomorrow for details about. this fundraiser and instructions about how to participate. Link To Join The MAST Individual Fundraiser Kick-Off Equipment Swap At Hyland Today and Saturday Today and tomorrow are your last opportunities to find used race equipment at a local swap. Team Gilboa is hosting its annual ski swap starting at 4PM today at Hyland. Please check out our Equipment Page on our website for valuable information on the equipment you need to start racing and how to select good race equipment. Equipment Checklist MAST Guide To Buying Used Equipment Registration With MAST --Closing Soon! Attached is a list of athletes who have registered to ski with MAST as of today. If you are planning on skiing this year, please register by November 1. MAST Registration Register With Mpls Public Schools Athletics—GET IT DONE! In addition to registering with MAST, you need to register for alpine skiing with the athletic department of your high school. Note that you will need to click on two separate links. One to register for Alpine with MPS and a second to pay the $75 MPS Activity Fee online and directly to MPS this year. IF YOU ARE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, ENTER THE NAME OF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL WHEN YOU ARE REGISTERING FOR ALPINE SKIING. If you enter the name of your middle school, alpine skiing is not given as a option for registration. IF YOU ARE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PAY THE $75 ACTIVITY FEE ONLINE. Middle school athletes will need to mail or deliver a check made payable to Mpls Public Schools to your high school athletic director. Here is a link to register for alpine skiing with Mpls Public School Athletics. MPS WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATION If you have not yet registered with MPS, please do so this weekend. You need to give our athletic directors sufficient time to work through all of the forms that winter sports athletes are submitting. No one is allowed to practice until they have been cleared to participate by your high school athletic director. And be sure to check with your AD to see if your Qualifying Physical Examination Form is still valid. They have a shelf life of three years. Team Snap App I am slowly learning how to utilize all the capabilities of Team Snap. Next up: the Team Snap App. You can download the Team Snap App onto your phone. My understanding is that you will not be able to find MAST in the TS app until I assign you to a TEAM within Team Snap. Your team will be designated by your high school, gender, and pod level (i.e., Pod 7 consists of all 7th graders, Pod 9 consists of 9th graders, etc). If you are registered with MAST, it should be easy to find your team. Many of you already know how to use the app so please be patient with me as I learn how best to utilize it for our purposes. The first quarter ends next week. Study hard! Finish Strong! Mark Conway 612-275-8392 Hello,

Click here to access the store: MPLS Alpine Ski Fall Apparel 2022 | Innovative Graphics (itemorder.com) Thanks for supporting MAST! Karin Tuesday, October 18, 2022 UPDATE: All: Now I am told that it is possible to register your 7th/8th grader online for a winter sport at your high school, but that the online payment does not work for 7th/8th graders. So, forget the paper forms. Compete these online. But do submit the $75 Activity Fee payment to your high school Athletic Director. Be sure to write Alpine in the memo line so they know that it goes to Alpine and not Nordic. Do not write in Skiing. Also, include a note indicating whose fee you are paying and for which sport. If you have any trouble with either the forms or the payment, call your high school athletic director going forward. Good luck, Mark ____________________________________________________________________________ Hello MAST Families: We have discovered a glitch in the online registration process for Minneapolis Public Schools Winter Sports. The registration platform does not provide a way for 7th and 8th graders to register for a high school winter sport. MPS is now aware of the issue and is trying to correct it. I have not been given any indication about how long this might take. Download, print, complete the attached forms. Affix all required signatures. Submit all form with a $75 check made payable to MPS Athletics to your HIGH SCHOOL Athletic Director. All athletes in ninth through twelfth grades should be able to use the online registration without a problem. Call me if you have any questions. Mark Conway 612-275-8392

Monday, October 17, 2022 Dear MAST Athletes, Parents, Coaches, Friends: We had a beautiful weather for our annual equipment swap. Thank you to Cyrus Vahhaji for all of your work collecting and posting swap equipment on our website. This effort (which is still ongoing) requires attention to detail and takes a lot of time. Thank you Cyrus. You do us all a great service. Thank you to all the coaches and parents who helped with set up, sales and clean up. And we got to see our new tent in action. It looked beautiful and was very functional. If you did not find what you need, there is still equipment available on our website: Equipment Swap Inventory. If you brought equipment to the swap and you did not pick it up afterwards, you can do so Wednesday and Thursday this week. Just give me a call and arrange a time. I also have money for those who did not pick up their sales receipts. Team Gilboa will be holding its annual swap at Hyland on Friday, Oct 28 from 4-8PM and Saturday Oct 29 from 10AM-5PM. This might be your last opportunity to find used equipment locally. You can also look for equipment on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and Sideline Swap. Winter Sports Registration With MPS Is Now Open! Please register online. Note that you will need to click on two separate links. One to register for Alpine with MPS and a second to pay the $75 MPS Activity Fee online and directly to MPS this year. MPS WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATION. If you know you are racing, sign up this week. So, if you delay registering with MPS and wait to sign up when everyone else is signing up (AT THE LAST MINUTE), the ADs will be swamped and may not have time to CLEAR your participation before the season starts. And be sure to check on the status of your Physical Clearance Examination Form with your AD. Is it still valid or has it expired? Registration With MAST --Closing Soon! From coordinating State Fair barn clean ups to the Mr. Paul's Spaghetti Dinner, Matt spends countless hours working to make these events a success! Thank you, Matt! MAST Update #5
Thursday, October 13, 2022 Dear MAST Athletes, Parents, Coaches, Friends: The Mr. Paul’s Supper Club Pasta Dinner was a fantastic success! What a great turn out of MAST families, alumni, and friends. Delicious food. Beautiful environment. Truly a joy-filled event. Thank you to all of you who dined with us Monday night. Your support of MAST is deeply appreciated. And once again our MAST athletes shined. They did everything from cooking to serving to hosting to bussing to dishwashing. And those athletes who attended as patrons, I was very impressed with your genteel table manners. How nice to see families sharing a meal together. Thank you to all of the athletes and parents who worked this wonderful gathering of food and merriment. Matt McConville has been working his tail off leading the team fundraising efforts over the last couple of years. Name a fundraiser and Matt has been cheerfully leading the way--from the Hoggard’s Tent Sale (back when we participated) to the State Fair Barn Cleanings to the Golf Tournament to Mr. Paul’s Supper Club. Thank you, Matt. And I want to offer a special word of thanks to Carrie Ehlers, Tommy Begnaud, and the staff of Mr. Paul’s Supper Club for their generous support of MAST. They donated all of the food and labor we enjoyed, as well as a very generous portion of the beverage sales. On behalf of the MAST community, THANK YOU! I. Be sure to get as much detail in as possible, i.e., condition of the boot soles, model information, flex number, sizing, etc. Step Two: Fill out the Equipment Sales Form on our website.https://www.mplsalpineski.org/mast-equipment-swap-sales-form.html Step Three: Send the photos to Cyrus Vahhaji ([email protected]) and Mark Conway ([email protected]), along with a short message that you would like these photos on the website and that you have filled out the sales form for each item. If the item does not sell before the swap on Oct 15, then bring it to the swap to sell. II. MAST Tuning Clinic: Saturday, October 15 at 3PM (During the MAST Ski Swap) All MAST athletes should be able to tune your skis (sharpen your edges and wax your bases). Parents are encouraged to also learn how to tune the skis so you can help your athlete do this properly without damaging the skis. Two brains are better than one. Our tuning clinic will teach you the basics of tuning and will help you get started. Join us at 3PM on Oct 15th. I suggest that you download, print, and bring the MAST Tuning Guide with you on Saturday. You can follow along and make notes. You will have a written record of what you learned. https://www.mplsalpineski.org/ski-tuning.html III. Athlete Individual Fundraiser Kick-Off Every year we hold a fundraiser that strictly benefits the athlete. The MAST Individual Athlete Fundraiser will kick off on Sunday, October 30 with an online presentation. Once again, we will be selling fresh roasted coffee produced by Urban Ventures and several varieties of delicious salsa produce locally by MinneSalsa. For each item you sell, you will earn money in the form of Team Snap Account Credits that you can use to pay for supplemental training, lift tickets for away races, camp, banquet tickets, and apparel. What: MAST Individual Fundraiser Kick-Off Meeting When: Sunday, October 30. Time: TBD Who: Athletes and Parents How: Look for an invitation to join the meeting virtually in future MAST Updates. IV. Where Are Those Unused Sports Sign Up Account Credits? I am not a thief. They still exist and you should be able to use them going forward. For those of you who had account credits remaining in your old Sports Sign Up account, I will be transferring those credits next week to your new Team Snap account. I wasn’t able to do this until you had registered with MAST through Team Snap. Hopefully the transition will go smoothly. So, if you haven’t registered for MAST yet, do so over the weekend so I can populate your account with old account credits. V. MAST Apparel Coming Soon The captains and a few dedicated parents have been working hard to design the 2022-23 MAST Apparel. Look for an email next week with a link to our apparel store and instructions for placing your order. I believe the window for ordering will be rather short so that we can get the orders fulfilled in a timely way. So please act quickly once the apparel sale is announced. VI. MAST Registration Is Open Registrations with MAST are sitting at around 83 athletes. Welcome Back to all our returning veterans and Welcome to MAST to all our new athletes. Go to the Fees and Registration Page on our website for step-by-step instructions for registering with MAST. VII. Registration with MPS Athletics Opens Next Week I am told that you will be able to register with MPS for Alpine Skiing starting on Oct 17. You will be asked to pay a $75 MPS Activity Fee online. Please do so. MAST is NOT collecting MPS Activity Fees this year, so please pay MPS directly. 100% of all Activity Fee payments go to our team’s budget with MPS to pay coaches. VII. Hyland Season Pass Payments Just a reminder that everyone needs a season pass to Hyland. If you still plan to purchase a season pass to Hyland through MAST, don't forget to place your order by sending a check in the amount of $474 made payable to Mpls Alpine to Hope White, 4945 Clinton Ave South, Mpls, MN 55419. I think that is all I have. Winter approaches slowly. Hopefully you are preparing your body with vigorous exercise after school. Use the next month to build strength, endurance, balance, speed, and agility. Be well. Make good choices. Mark Conway 612-275-8392 [email protected] |
