25/26 Season Update #10

1/12/2026

MAST UPDATE Week 10
Sunday, January 11, 2026

Hello MAST Family,
This past week has been a heavy one for Minneapolis. Many of us are carrying a mix of sadness, anger, confusion, and exhaustion, and it’s okay to name that. In moments like this, races, practices, results - almost everything - can feel small compared to what our community and neighbors are experiencing.
What does matter is people. Please check in on one another: teammates, friends, classmates, coaches. A simple “how are you doing?” can mean more than we realize. No one needs to carry this alone.
And at the same time, there is something grounding about continuing to show up. We keep moving, keep training, keep supporting each other - not because what we do is more important than what is happening around us, but because being together, working hard, and caring for one another is part of how we get through difficult weeks. This is what Minnesotans do. We look out for each other. We put in the work. We show up, even when it’s hard.
Thank you for being part of this team and this community.

Immediate Action Items:
  • Race intentions for the MEC#2 MLK & MEC#3 Buck Hill races are due Monday, Jan 12.

REMEMBER to state your RACE INTENTIONS

Race intentions for the January 19 & January 23 Races are due Monday, January 12! Intentions for the January 26 Pionoeer Invitational are due Sunday, January 18!

Race Intentions are open for the rest of the season!  Go to each tab and state your intentions now!  Deadlines for race intentions are listed in the intentions sheet for each race.

When you click on the Race Intentions 2025-26 spreadsheet link, look for the tabs at the bottom of the page for each specific race: December 19, etc. Click on a tab and find your team (scroll down) and then find your name. If you want to race, type a Y in the Yes box next to your name. If you do not want to race, type a N in the No box next to your name. It is expected that each racer states their intention for every race. Even if you think you may not qualify for a specific varsity race, it’s still important to fill in the boxes. Stating YES does not guarantee you will race but it tells the coaches you are available and interested when they make the lineup. If racers forget to state race intentions and show up to race, they will be seeded at the end of the race. For non-Hyland races, if a racer does not state their race intention by the due date, they will not be considered for that race. Keep in mind many of the daytime invitationals are all day, which means being released from school. Almost all afternoon/evening races are early release days.

Saturday practice times are listed in TeamSnap as 7:45am - 10:00am. We want you to arrive at 7:45am so we can make the most of our designated 8am-10am on-snow time. We are expected to clean the hill at 10, and if we’re efficient as a team you are likely off the hill or outside getting into cars by 10:15/10:20.
Please note there is NO freeskiing anywhere else at Hyland before they open to the public at 9am. They open the NORTH CHAIR ONLY at 8am to allow us to train, and we are to go from the chalet to the bottom of North and from the bottom of North to the chalet.  We are not allowed to cut through the terrain park to go back to the chalet. Please respect these guidelines so we can continue to get great training done on Saturdays before the masses arrive.

MLK INVITATIONAL - GIANT’S RIDGE
The January 17 MLK Invitational at Giant’s Ridge is a one-day, all-day event consisting of two races - a sunrise race in the morning and a sunset race in the afternoon. We will be inviting the top 6-7 athletes for 3 girls and 3 boys teams (SW, Washburn, MAST).  Please note: MAST does not provide transportation, lodging or meals for this invitational.  Parents/caregivers are responsible for transportation, lodging and meals for their athletes.  Due to distance and expense, alternates’ attendance will be optional unless they are asked, in advance, to race in place of a seeded athlete.  Please take all of these things into consideration when you state your intentions for this invitational. Please do so by January 6. Race Intentions 2025-26
Team selections will be made soon so families can plan accordingly. If you think your athlete might be selected to attend, it is suggested to secure accommodations in or near Biwabik or Virginia, MN that can be cancelled.
*FYI, athletes are never allowed to transport himself/herself to an away high school race.

MAST PHOTO GALLERY: A special holiday gift
Have you met Janna Fraboni, our very talented Team Photographer and Mom of Washburn captain, Stella? Janna braves the cold and hikes the hill at every race, camera at the ready…to capture our athletes in their element. She just posted some fantastic photos from the Wild Invitational on our website (as well as scenes from the State Fair Barn cleanup). You can drag your photos into your own photo gallery or desktop, for keeps! How sweet is that?! Check them out - and stay tuned for even more from Janna as the season unfolds!

ON-HILL VOLUNTEERS NEEDED & APPRECIATED at Hyland & Supplemental Practices
This is a pretty cool experience for both parents and their athletes. Plus, being a parent volunteer during practice and supplementals gives our coaches more time to coach our racers.  The only requirements are that you know how to ski (racing experience not needed) and you must complete the MSP Parent Background Check.  You get to hold a radio, drill holes, replace gates, slip, and be up close, watching our mighty racers and coaches. Coaches will give you instruction as to what you can do to help. You can come out one night a week, 2 nights a week, stay for 1 session, stay for all sessions.  Recruit a fellow MAST parent to join you and make an evening of it! Please reach out to a coach with questions. Their contact info is at the bottom of this email.
“I had a free afternoon and evening so went to help out at practice. Little did I know how appreciated I'd feel with just showing up and offering help wherever it was needed. There were three of us helping coaches Thursday night: Jeff, Erik and myself.  I did videoing of runs, Jeff managed athletes at top and helped with course repair, and Erik helped with sage coaching advice at the base. Our help allowed the coaches to focus on the athletes. I'd highly recommend putting a handful of afternoon/evenings on your calendar to show up at practice to help with videoing, course management, organizing athletes at top, and giving high fives. It was super easy and very fun. No previous experience needed!!!!”   -MAST President, Heather Hunt
To help out, complete the Volunteer Background Check. Coaches will have a lift ticket for you at the base or in the team locker (they will give you the code).

25/26 Season Update #8

12/29/2025

MAST UPDATE Week 8
Sunday, December 28, 2025

Hello MAST Family!

We hope you had a holly jolly Christmas - it’s the best time of the year. The writer of that song must have been a skier, right? After last week’s warm spell and snow melt, temperatures are dropping and we’ve been gifted with fresh snow - with more on the way. Yay!

We’ve got a big week ahead, so be sure to stay rested and healthy. Giant’s Ridge Training Camp is equal parts hard work and great fun, and we’re looking forward to it. In the meantime, we’ll see you at Hyland.
There have been a few changes to our practice schedule, so as always, please read this update in its entirety and check TeamSnap for the latest details.
And looking ahead, race intentions for our Afton race on Jan 7 are due today!

AFTON WAIVERS!!!   Race intentions for our Afton race on Jan 7 are due today!

We have a race at Afton on January 7 and still have 8 skiers who have yet to sign the Afton waiver. Those skiers are listed below:

Aiden Stuke (Y)
Elsie Gray
Harriet McHenry (Y)
Liam Ruch
Mary Garbers
Oliver Tourville (Y)
Penelope Brown
Sascha Moldow (Y)

(Y) indicates you stated Yes as your intention for the Afton race (so please sign and submit the waiver). Those with nothing next to their name still have not stated your intentions.
You WILL NOT be permitted to be on the slopes without signing the attached waiver. If you don’t plan to go to Afton, please let us know your intentions by stating ‘No’ in the intentions for the Afton race.  We can take a good number of skiers from each team, so if you want to be considered, please state Y in the intentions.
The waiver is attached for download/printing. Once signed, parents/athletes have two options:
1) Scan and email to both [email protected] and [email protected] with the subject line titled "MAST Waiver, Athlete Name.”
OR
2) Drop off signed waiver in Stephanie's mailbox at 4612 Abbott Ave S (in the folder labeled “Afton Alps Waivers.”)

CHANGES TO WINTER BREAK PRACTICE SCHEDULE
We have CANCELED several Hyland practices this week due to low attendance and coach availability.

  • NO 5-7:15PM practices this week. They will resume the week of January 5th.
  • We have also canceled 8-10AM practices from 12/31 through 1/3.

Reminder: Always check TeamSnap for the most up-to-date info on our schedule.

GIANT’S RIDGE TRAINING CAMP INFO -  Wednesday, December 31 - Saturday, Jan 3

Below are some requests and reminders for the athletes and coaches attending the Giants Ridge Camp.  Please read carefully.

Meet The Bus: Please meet the bus Wednesday morning at 6AM at Washburn in our usual spot on 49th street.   Skis will go in the trailers that the coaches are pulling. Girl’s skis go in the U Haul Rental trailer and Boys’ skis go in Joel’s trailer (MAST Trailer).

Peanut / Nut-Free Camp:  Please remember that we have several athletes who have severe peanut allergies.  Please DO NOT bring any food products with nuts or peanut oils.

Meals:  Breakfast and dinner will be provided at Camp Chicagami. Lunch is provided by Giant’s Ridge catering. If you stated food allergies or dietary restrictions when you registered, those have been communicated to both Camp and Giant’s Ridge.

Snacks/ Treats/ Fruit:  The Packing List suggests that people bring a healthy snack or fruit to share.  Any food you bring up needs to be stored in the lodge. No food is allowed in the cabins.  Food attracts mice and ants so please don’t even think about bringing any food into the cabins. Team snacks can be packed in a separate grocery bag and handed to coaches at bus loading.

Talent Show:  Calling all acts!  We will be upholding our tradition and having the MAST Talent Show at camp. Bring your talent or lack thereof and be ready to share!  Past talents on display: piano, singing, dancing, poetry, storytelling, jokes, magic, guitar, fiddling, and skits.  Don’t be shy.

Start talking to buddies about what you can do together. If you’d like Beckett Peterson to bring his electric keyboard for your act, please reach out to Jen Peterson at 612.384.4672/ [email protected].

Option to watch video with a coach on the bus ride:  We will have coaches on the bus, and if you ask them nicely, they might just be willing to watch a video of your skiing with you.  Download the run you would like to analyze to your phone and ask a coach to analyze your skiing with you.

Packing List: Here is a link to the Giant's Ridge Packing List.  Please pack the clothing you will need for skiing on Tuesday morning either on top of your bag or in a separate bag.  We will be stopping very briefly at camp to drop off our bags, change into our ski clothes, and then head to the Ridge.  *Also, don’t forget a sleeping bag, pillow, and toothbrush. Bring a water bottle.  Showers are available in the cabins. Be sure to LABEL EVERYTHING!

Electronics:  You have four days to focus on your skiing and to interact with your teammates.   Keep your phone and other electronics hidden away please.  If you want to use them for a period of time on the bus, that is fine. In camp, use your time to engage with other human beings instead of your electronics.

Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, Vaping are strictly forbidden.  If you feel a need to indulge in any such activity, stay home.  If you are caught engaging in any such activity, you will be sent home.

**Remember, this is a training camp.  We will work hard, but have fun doing so.

***Note regarding MLK Giants Ridge Race Saturday, January 17th: If you think your athlete might be selected to attend,  it is suggested to secure accommodations in or near Biwabik or Virginia, MN that can be cancelled. Please state your race intentions as well. Those invited will be the top 6-7 boys and girls for each of our teams: Washburn, Southwest, and MAST.

REMEMBER to state your RACE INTENTIONS

Race intentions for our Afton race on Jan 7 are due today!

Race Results:  Thanks to Ali Krueger (Rowan’s mom) who updates our MAST site with the results for every race.  Did you know you can see results for all races not just for this year, but going back all the way to 2011?!!!

Enjoy all this gorgeous snow!

GIANT’S RIDGE TRAINING CAMP INFO -  Wednesday, December 31 - Saturday, Jan 3

Below are some requests and reminders for those athletes and coaches attending the Giants Ridge Camp.

Peanut Free Camp:  Please remember that we have several athletes who have severe peanut allergies.  Please DO NOT bring any food products with nuts or peanut oils.
Meals:  Breakfast and dinner will be provided at Camp. Lunch is provided by Giant’s catering.

Bring your talent or lack thereof and be ready to share.  Past talents on display: piano, singing, dancing, poetry, storytelling, jokes, magic, guitar, fiddling, and skits.  Don’t be shy.
Start talking to buddies about what you can do together. Beckett Peterson is bringing his electric keyboard and will make it available to anyone who would like to share some piano prowess. Thanks, Beckett!

Remember, this is a training camp.  We will work hard, but have fun doing so.

MAST UPDATE Week 6
Sunday, December 14, 2025

Hello MAST Family!

Jack Frost may have been nipping at our noses (and toes), but that didn’t slow us down at our first race at Hyland Hills on Friday! It was an outstanding season opener, with our racers bringing impressive speed and strong times across the board. The race ran smoothly and provided a fantastic introduction for our new skiers. Safe to say, things are looking bright this season (pun intended!).

As temperatures warm up a bit this week, we’ll continue training and turn our focus to the WILD Invitational on Friday. We realize that the bustling holiday season is in full swing, but please make note of these extra important items and read this Update thoroughly.

AFTON WAIVER - IMPORTANT!
We still have 12 athletes (and some coaches!) who need to sign the Afton waiver (click here to see if you have or haven’t). If you are one of those twelve, please complete this waiver today.  We can take 10 Varsity and 10 JVers to the Afton race.  Even if you are not sure you will be going, everyone should sign and submit before this Friday, December 19.  We would like to stop reminding people - it takes time for volunteers to track you down.

UPDATES & RACE RESULTS - They sometimes like to hide!
Does it seem that sometimes expected Updates and Race Results don’t show up in your inbox? Check your Promotions folder! Oh, the joy of using Google Groups… ;) For reasons unknown to us, emails that we send out to you can end up in other folders. It is a mystery, and we guess Google just likes to keep us guessing. Make sure to check those other folders if you’re expecting an email from us and it’s just not showing up.

MAST BOARD
If you are interested in attending a Board Meeting to learn more about MAST, please reach out to Heather Hunt to get details: [email protected].  Our next meeting is January 12th 7:30-8:30 at Heather’s home. We’d love to have you attend!

IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES
  • Wild Invitational - Friday, December 19 - Wild Mtn SignUp-Wild Mt. Invitational 12/19/2025
  • Hyland 2 & Alumni Race - Tuesday, December 23, 4:30 Race start at Hyland
(Alumni please state race intentions here.)

  • MEC Race #1 - Wednesday, January 7 - Afton Alps (state race intentions now)

25/26 Season Update #5

12/8/2025

MAST UPDATE Week 5
Monday, December 8, 2025

Snow is falling and more is on the way. Hyland is shaping up perfectly for our race this Friday! That means it’s time to declare your Race Intentions.
We encourage everyone to jump into this Hyland race. Think of it as an instructional warm-up: a chance for athletes (rookies and vets), race workers, and coaches to get in sync for the season. We’re hoping to get some gate training in this week, so don’t forget your shin and chin guards!
We have some very important stuff in this Update so please read in detail to the end.

HUGE thanks to Ali Krueger for organizing an amazing night of fashion and fundraising at Evereve last Wednesday, and to Mike & Jen Rulf and Dual Citizen Brewing for hosting another fantastic Parent Social on Sunday!! It was great to connect, catch up, and actually see each other’s faces without all the winter layers.

And a big shout-out to everyone who attended the Race Worker Training and stepped up to volunteer.  What an incredible turnout - your enthusiasm keeps this program running strong!

OUR FIRST RACES ARE APPROACHING.  STATE YOUR INTENTIONS NOW!
  • Wednesday, December 12 - Hyland (SW, Washburn, MAST) - Inter Team. No need to state race intentions for this race. Race details are below.
  • Friday, December 19 - Wild Mountain Invitational - We will take 6 Varsity racers per team, but please state whether you are available nonetheless. The bus will meet at 6:15am.
***Deadline to state race intention for Wild is THIS FRIDAY, December 12. If racers forget to state race intentions for this race, they will not be considered for participation.***
  • Tuesday, December 23 - Hyland 2 /  Alumni Race - Timing TBD

HOW DO YOU STATE RACE INTENTIONS?

When you click on the Race Intentions 2025-26 spreadsheet link, look for the tabs at the bottom of the page for each specific race: December 19, etc.  (More dates will be added by the end of this week). For invitationals, if a racer does not state their race intention, they will not be considered for that race. Keep in mind many of the daytime invitationals are all day, which means being released from school. Almost all afternoon/evening races are early release days.

RACE DAY DETAILS for the December 12 INTER TEAM RACE @ Hyland Hills
Early Release From School
We will ask the schools to give you an early release on Friday between 2:30-2:45PM. This should give you ample time to grab your ski gear & a snack and get to the hill.  Middle schoolers - early release includes you, too! Some middle schools still require a parent note. We will send you a confirmation of early release times on Thursday of this week.
Race day schedule for Dec 12
3:00-3:15 pm - Arrive at Hyland
3:15-3:45 - Warm Up
3:45 - Course Inspection for Both Courses
4:00 - Gate Judges Meet in the Finish Arena
4:30 - First Run Start
5:30 - Second Run Start
6:15 - Hill Clean Up   **Please plan to stay and help your teammates sweep the hill. Hill clean up as a team is one of the unique characteristics of MAST. It sets us apart! Please be a part of the MAST flying V and team meeting at the end of a race night.

MISCELLANEOUS REMINDERS
  • Always pick up a lift ticket when you first get to Hyland. Your season pass is NOT your lift ticket. You need a fresh lift ticket every day. Hyland staff check for lift tickets frequently.
  • ALWAYS bring your rope tow (leather) gloves or mittens. If we are skiing on the rope tow lanes (lanes 4-8), then use your leather gloves/mittens and the tow rope. You will build muscle strength AND get in about three times the number of runs.
  • Talk to last hour teachers about your early release days for races a few days BEFORE race day. They will appreciate the heads up. If you have a test on Friday, last hour, stay for the test and come to Hyland as soon as you can. You can still get to Hyland well before the first run starts even if you do not leave school early.

RACE WORKER SIGN UP for December 12   We need your help!
We need race workers to pull off a successful race - and lots of them.  Please sign up!! If you would like to shadow someone, please show up at the designated time.

25/26 Season Update #4

12/2/2025

MAST UPDATE Week 4
Sunday, November 30, 2025

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends! And how about that Winter Blast? Mother Nature clearly knows what skiers want. We should be on the hill in no time!
MAST has another big week on deck:
Parents & Guardians
• Wednesday: Shop at Evereve and support MAST while knocking out your holiday list and holiday party attire. A little for you - a little for them…and a lot given back to MAST.
• Sunday: Join us at Dual Citizen Brewing for our annual Race Worker Training + Parent Social. Learn what it takes to run a ski race, discover where you can jump in (it’s easier than you think!), and connect with other parents before we’re all bundled up and unrecognizable on the hill. Don’t forget to RSVP at the bottom of this Update.
Athletes
For now, Dryland continues. We are hopeful we will get the green light to get on the hill in the coming days/week! Pay attention to your email and TeamSnap for updates. In the meantime, make sure your skis are tuned, edges sharpened, bases waxed, and gear ready to roll the moment we get the green light.

WAIVERS - We are ALMOST there! Let’s get those final waivers in NOW!

Fill out Online: MnSAA Waiver
EVERYONE (skiers AND coaches) MUST sign the MnSAA waiver. Include your High School in the required box before entering your racer’s name.  For example, “Southwest High School (MAST)”, or “Roosevelt High School (MAST).”  It must be in this format. This is super important! Some skiers have been marked as ‘no waiver’ because it hasn’t been filled out correctly. Remember: NO waiver, NO skiing!    MnSAA waiver

Print, Sign, Scan, and Email: Afton Alps Waiver
Afton has their own waiver and does not use the MNSAA waiver. Everyone (coaches, competing athletes, noncompeting athletes) must complete this waiver. ***The Afton waiver is attached for download/printing. Once signed, parents/athletes have two options:
  • 1) Scan and email the PDF to both [email protected] and [email protected] with the subject line titled "MAST Waiver, Athlete Name,” or
    2) Mail/Drop off printed signed waiver in Stephanie's mailbox at 4612 Abbott Ave S (in the yellow folder).

*The  2025-2026 MAST Roster shows if you have been confirmed as completing your waivers.
**There can be a lag between when an MnSAA Waiver is completed and when Hyland communicates it with us. If you see that you’ve been erroneously marked incomplete for MNSAA Waivers, you may email Stephanie Peng directly at [email protected].

HELPFUL VIDEOS
Below are two videos done by Deb Armstrong who has a great youtube channel that breaks down critical skills needed to ski a race well. She also has interviews and insights from high level athletes who are on the US Ski team. Edging is a foundational skill and Deb teaches two drills that we will be doing when we get on snow.

25/26 Season Update #3

11/25/2025

MAST UPDATE Week 3
Sunday, November 23, 2025

Hello MAST Athletes, Parents, and Friends:

Coach Joel has been focusing on teaching visualization strategies to the athletes at Dryland training. This skill is used by all elite skiers to help reduce anxiety and be more prepared for the race course. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, this will be a short week and Dryland is on Monday and Tuesday only! Please make these training sessions a priority. We’ll be on snow soon!

In the spirit of post-Thanksgiving shopping, our Fundraising Team has scheduled a festive Social and Fundraiser at Evereve! Join us for a fun night of shopping Wednesday, December 3, to help prepare for the holiday season and raise money for our program. All are welcome, and 15% of every purchase goes straight to support MAST!  We also have our Parent Social and Race Working Training coming up on Sunday, December 7. Details on both socials are just below our Giant’s Ridge Camp Sign Up, which is now open!

*** Coaches Corner***

Thanks for another great week of dryland! You put in nine days of hard work and focus which will pay dividends when we get on the hill.

Unfortunately, we do need to address some poor behavior that has taken place over the last two weeks. Some athletes have been disruptive, dismissive and disrespectful to coaches, and are setting a poor example for their teammates. In particular, coaches have had to reprimand athletes multiple times for spitting on each other. This is not acceptable behavior. Just last week, Bengals’ WR Ja’marr Chase was fined over $500,000 and suspended for a game for spitting on another player. You should all hold yourselves and your teammates to a higher standard.

The head coaches have discussed and agreed on the below consequences for disrespectful behavior moving forward:
  • Athletes will be given a verbal warning for the first two instances.
  • Third instance, the coach will email parents regarding the athlete's behavior.
  • Fourth instance, athletes will be asked to sit out of the remainder of dryland or practice.
  • Fifth instance, an athlete will be dismissed from dryland or practice.
  • Sixth instance, the athlete will be benched from the next race.
We’re hopeful that by communicating these consequences, we won’t have to revisit them.

Looking forward to a great rest of the season,
Your Head Coaches

DRYLAND TRAINING Monday and Tuesday ONLY this week  4:30-6PM -Washburn Stadium
Bring a jacket, hat, gloves, athletic shoes, layers of athletic clothing with shorts underneath in case we end up training inside the school for part or all of the session. And don’t forget a water bottle! If we need to move dryland indoors due to cold temps or rain/snow, we’ll communicate this no later than 3PM the day of dryland via TeamSnap and email.

MAST ROSTER - 2025-2026 MAST Roster
The attached roster is to be used only for MAST ski purposes - for instance, coordinating carpools to ski practice or connecting with people for ski tuning advice.

This roster ALSO contains columns that signify if waivers have been completed.  Scroll all the way to the right and look for an ‘X’ by your skier’s name and get those waivers in if they’re missing!

WE NEED YOUR WAIVERS NOW!

  • Bring to DRYLAND and give to a Coach: MPS Transportation Waiver
  • Fill out Online: MnSAA Waiver
Everyone (skiers and coaches) MUST sign the MnSAA waiver. Please remember that the MNSAA waiver is REQUIRED to ski at Hyland Hills (and Buck, Giant’s Ridge, Welch, Wild Mountain). Include your High School where asked. For example, “Southwest High School (MAST)”, or “Roosevelt High School (MAST)”. Remember, no waiver, no skiing!  Please get it done.  MnSAA waiver
  • Print, Sign, Scan, and Email: Afton Alps Waiver
Afton has their own waiver and does not use the MNSAA waiver. Anyone participating in the races at Afton Alps on Jan 7 and 15, including competing athletes, non-competing athletes that will be on the course, and coaches, must complete this waiver in order to race. ***The Afton waiver is attached for download/printing. Once signed, parents/athletes have two options:
    • 1) Scan and email the PDF to both [email protected] and [email protected] with the subject line titled "MAST Waiver, Athlete Name,” or
      2) Drop off printed signed waiver in Stephanie's mailbox at 4612 Abbott Ave S (in the yellow folder)

25/26 MAST Update #11

11/18/2025

MAST UPDATE #11
Sunday, November 16, 2025

Hello MAST Athletes, Parents, and Friends:

It was awesome seeing you all at Hyland Pass Pickup. The energy and excitement were contagious. Did anyone notice anything extra spectacular at Hyland? How about that white stuff? We have snow! Sometimes we don’t get a base until after Thanksgiving so we can be thankful for that extra cold snap last week.

With that in mind, let’s make sure that everything is checked off our list so we’re good to go for on-hill training. We are so close!

THANK YOUS:  Coaches, Captains, and MAST Board, thank you for putting together an informational and efficient evening! Big thanks also go to Coryn Petersen and our Captains for that awesome Merch Store! We will pass along distribution details when the merch is in, and we can’t wait to see everyone in their new attire! And while we’re doling out thank yous, we have to put our hands up for our Core Parents (Bill, Owen, & Erik) for assisting our athletes and families and for keeping track of MPS registration status. Thank you! It takes a village.

COACHES’ CORNER: Great job at the first week of dryland! A few things going in to next week:

  • Temps are expected to be about ten degrees cooler at the warmest part of the day. Bring layers!! Hats, mittens, sweats, hoodies are all good ideas. You can always take layers off if you’re too warm.
  • Pay attention to your email and Team Snap. There is rain in the forecast and we may move inside. We’ll let you know by 3PM at the latest the day of dryland whether to meet on the Field or in the Washburn lunch room.
  • Dryland starts at 4:30 PM and ends at 6PM. We’ve had a number of athletes show up late and a few consistently “sneak” out early. If you have a legitimate excuse, communicate with your coaches, but otherwise, you are expected to be on time and stay until the end of practice.

LAST CALL FOR CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING!
Did you miss out on the fun the first time around? You are in luck. Two additional time slots have been added Sign up for CONCUSSION TESTING
*Please remember to bring your chromebook! (chromebooks will be supplied for middle schoolers)

Monday, November 17 at 4:15 pm
Tuesday, November 18 at 3:30 pm

Jenny Hokanson, thank you for orchestrating this for us!

MAST ROSTER
Jenni Lansing has been hard at work compiling contact information for our athletes and families to create a team roster. This roster will be shared next week to enable you to find nearby families for carpooling to practices and events. If you would like to ‘opt out’ and omit your address/phone number from the roster, please respond to this email and we will remove you. The official roster will be sent next week. Thank you!

WE NEED YOUR WAIVERS!
MnSAA Waiver:
So far we have only 36 completed MNSAA waivers.

Afton Alps Waiver:  Afton has their own waiver and does not use the MNSAA waiver. Anyone participating in the races at Afton Alps on Jan 7 and 15, including competing athletes, non-competing athletes that will be on the course, and coaches, must complete this waiver in order to race.
The Afton waiver is attached for download/printing. Once signed, parents/athletes have two options:
1) Scan and email the PDF to both [email protected] and [email protected] with the subject line titled "MAST Waiver, Athlete Name,” or
2) Drop off printed signed waiver in Stephanie's mailbox at 4612 Abbott Ave S (in the yellow folder)

THE LAST REMAINING FORM
MPS Transportation Waiver
*In case you couldn’t make it to Hyland Pass Pick Up or just plain forgot to bring this with you, please get your Transportation Waiver filled out and given to a Coach at Dryland practice.

TEAMSNAP & the TEAM CALENDAR
Daily schedules are posted and communicated via TeamSnap App. Please confirm with your athlete or parent/guardian that each of you have this enabled and active. Should there be any last minute practice changes or changes due to weather during the day, you will be notified via TeamSnap - on the app and in your TeamSnap associated email.

The season’s race schedule is posted in TeamSnap. We are still waiting on confirmation for a few races / changes and may have a couple additional Hyland races to add. To reiterate from orientation, races are optional for athletes. We will have a Race Intentions form out soon, where athletes can state whether they would like to race or not, per race. Stay tuned for race intentions forms, and for now, know that what you see on the schedule is the most updated information we can provide.

SPRONGO
All MAST Athletes need to have a Sprongo account in your name. Sprongo is the video sharing site we use to store the video clips we take of your skiing during the season.

Follow these instructions please.
  1. Set up the account using your first name and last name. This is important because your coaches will be “tagging” your videos using your name, not a nickname or alias.
  2. Set up the account using your personal email address, NOT your school address. When you graduate from high school, you will no longer be able to access your school email account. If, for any reason, you want to access your videos after high school, you will still be able to do so using your personal account.
  3. Save and safely store your password AND share your password with your parents and anyone else who loves you enough to want to follow your progress in Sprongo.
  4. Upload a picture of yourself to your account profile. This will help the coaches and your teammates learn to recognize you on the hill and off.
