Well, THAT was a fun night. Of course, I am referring to our ANNUAL State Fair Fundraiser. To all of you who participated: A HEARTY THANK YOU TO ALL 115 ATHLETES, PARENTS, SIBLINGS, AND GRANDPARENTS who worked so hard to finish the barn in record time. Had we not been waiting on garbage trucks, we would have been done in an hour and a half. I could not believe how quickly the gates were disassembled and stacked. The place looked great afterwards. There wasn’t much we could do about the smell however. Congratulation on a job well done. I would not be surprised if the Iowa State Fair comes calling for our services. If you work together that well all season and with that kind of energy, we will have a wonderful season and you will all become outstanding ski racers.
MAST Registration Is Open!
I am pleased to report that the 2017-18 MAST Registration Process is NOW OPEN!!!
Registration is a TWO-STEP PROCESS. The first step is to register with MAST. The second step is to register with your high school athletic director. Attached is an important document that will guide you through this two-step registration process in detail. Please download, print and read carefully.
One important change to the registration process which bears repeating. You will be asked to pay the MPS Activity Fee TO MAST this year, not to MPS or your High School. And we are asking you to pay online with your credit or debit card, not with a check like you did last year. MAST will collect the MPS Activity Fee and then give MPS Athletics one check for all Activity Fees that we collect. That money will be put in our MPS Alpine Account and we will draw on that money to pay expenses during the season. You will also be asked to pay the MAST Membership Fee of $150 online with your credit or debit card, but the Hyland Season Pass Fee by CHECK. A list of athletes who already purchased a 2017-18 Hyland Season Pass was provided via email—in case you forgot.
Why register with MAST in September?
We are opening up registration this early in the Fall so that we can determine exactly how many open roster spots we have on the team for the season. Last year we were able to accommodate all 99 MPS students who wanted to join MAST. We graduated twelve. We have already added over a dozen new MPS students to our email list and we haven’t even put out our signs or posted any notices in school newsletters. My hope is that everyone who wants to ski race with MAST will be able to find a spot on our roster. I do not want to turn anyone away. However, there is a limit to the number of athletes we can roster due to budgetary restraints, lack of training space at Hyland, and the size of our coaching staff. So, if you are planning on racing for MAST this Winter, register now.

The ANNUAL MAST BBQ AND PICNIC is scheduled for Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Beard’s Plaisance (44th and Upton Ave S) from 4:30PM to 6:30PM. [PLEASE NOTE: We will NOT hold an equipment swap in conjunction with the picnic this year so that we can focus on meeting new and returning families and communicating information about the upcoming season. We WILL hold an equipment swap at another time. Stay tuned.]. The BBQ and Picnic will allow athletes, parents and coaches to meet one another, to share information about the upcoming season, to kick off the MAST apparel sale and fundraising activities, and to hold the Annual Meeting of the Minneapolis Alpine Ski Team. MAST will provide charcoal and light the grills located at Beard’s. Families should bring something to share with the team and something to throw on the grill for your family.
If your last name begins with:
A-G: Bring Salad or Side Dish
H-M: Bring Dessert
N-Z: Bring Beverage(non-alcoholic) or Chips
SENIORS to arrive early (4:00) to help with set up.
JUNIORS are asked to stay a bit longer and help with clean up duties.
NEW Family Information Meeting
We will hold our annual MAST Information Meeting on Monday, October 9 from 7-8:15PM at Fuller Park (48th and Grand Ave. S.). This meeting will be for NEW Athletes and Families ONLY. Please set this evening aside and spread the word. The coaching staff will share important information about ski racing, equipment, MAST, the upcoming season and answer all of your questions.
If you need equipment for the upcoming season, you might just find what you need at an affordable price at a Ski Swap. Three ski swaps will be held locally over the next five weeks. See our website for more information about ski swaps. If you have questions about equipment, check out the Equipment Page on the MAST website: http://www.mplsalpineski.org/. If you still have questons, please give me a call.
If you have equipment to sell, we can post it on our website. Send a couple of pictures with information about the equipment you have for sale to Connie Theien at email@example.com. Connie does a great job getting equipment notices onto our website,
We could use a few talented folks for the following pre-season jobs. Please give me a call or send me an email if you can help.
1. Registrar: The registrar collects contact information for each family and makes sure we have everything we need (i.e., phone numbers, emails, home addresses, etc). The registrar creates a handy spreadsheet that contains all this information for coaches to use as needed and to distribute to members who would like to form car pools.
2. City Kids Coffee Fundraising Assistant: We will be sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit individual MAST athletes. We need one or two people to assist the Chair of this fundraiser.
Call or email if you have any questions.
Enjoy the week.
