Update #10: December 11, 2016
Subject: Training, Camp, Wild Invite, Sprongo
Dear Athletes and Parents:
We had a great week of training last week. It is good to be on snow working on the fundamentals of ski technique. All the coaches are impressed with the attentiveness and work ethic of our athletes. I am excited to report that each athlete who has been in regular attendance has shown remarkable improvement since our first days together on snow. Great work athletes! Keep it up.
This week, we will continue to hit the fundamentals hard. We will also begin to take those technical skills and start to ski in brushes and stubby gates. Some of you will also begin to see tall gates this week. Everyone needs to know this however: we will not advance into tall gates as quickly or as soon as other high school teams. Don’t worry. You will get plenty of time skiing gates over the next ten weeks. For now, your focus needs to be on mastering the fundamentals. The pay off comes in the last month of the season when those fundamentals skills will leap frog you over your competition. Just wait and see.

For those of you unable to attend the Giants Ridge Camp, there will be training at Hyland from 6:30-8:45PM Monday through Thursday. Coach Alex will be the lead coach and will be assisted by a group of volunteer coaches each night. Thank you Alex and volunteers. Athletes, please ask your coaches how you can help them with course set up and take down.
Supplemental Training Saturday December 17: Venue Changed To Wild Mt
We moved our training venue from Welch Village to Wild Mt for Saturday, Dec. 17 due to some unexpected fees that Welch has decided to impose on teams wishing to train at Welch this season. At this point, our plan is to train at Welch on Dec 28. We may need to move the other Welch training dates to Wild as well. For now, please REGISTER for the Supplemental Training at Wild Mt. Wild Mt Invitational
We are sending three squads to the Wild Mt Invitational on December 23 this year--36 competitors and 4 alternates for a total of 40 athletes. I know some of you may already be out of town or unable to attend the race for a variety of reasons. So, I would like ALL ATHLETES to STATE YOUR AVAILABILITY for the Wild Mt Invite. The coaches will form the 3 boys teams and 3 girls teams from the list of athletes who declare their availability and intention to race at the Wild Mt. If you do not state your availability, you will not be entered to race. Please let me know your availability no later than Friday, December 16.

We have been taking video at every practice every night. We don’t film everyone every night, but we film a lot of you. The coaches would like you to watch your video on Sprongo. You can learn a lot by watching yourself and your teammates ski. And the coaches sometimes give you feedback as they are filming you. Be sure to click on the gear icon to take advatage of slow motion and side by side comparison features. If you have not created an account for yourself, please do so. Be sure to create the account in your name (the athlete’s name). Use your first and last name. This allows the coaches and you to TAG your video to your name and account. This makes it easier for all of us to find video of YOU when we want to watch your runs. Here is a link to the MAST Sprongo site:
